Being awake for over 40 hours (we left Perth, Western Australia on the 11th Dec, 22.20 Emirates flight) and 20 hours of travelling (10hrs to Dubi, 2 hr layover and 8 hours to Glasgow) we were completely exhausted. I can't sleep sitting up so was beyond tired, and I developed a "sniffle" the day before which I thought was allergy but turned into a cold/cough which made travelling worse. I tried hard not to infect the plane but I guess you get that - usually that's where I've previously caught colds on long flights. The fights were good as flight go (I hate the actual travel - I love getting to the destination) and the food was quite exceptional for airline foot as was the service.
We arrived around lunch time in Glasgow and a helpful policeman (armed with some very impressive hardware) assisted us with advice about not getting ripped off for a taxi. He told us to pay no more than 20GBP to the Watermill Hotel in Paisley where we were staying and it was only 8 Pounds 20 Pence in anycase.
The Watermill is a converted 300 year old Flour Mill and it was just gorgeous. Old-fashioned and traditional we slept in a four poster bed with stone walls and antique stash window panes listening to the rushing of the White Cart Water below - magical.
We showered (typical of the UK, tepid and low pressure at best - but we were prepared for that from previous trips) and hit the hay for 3 hours before getting up for a meal. I had the Chicken Kiev and Vince had the Cajun Spiced Chicken - both were very good and reasonably priced (under 8 GBP each) with generous serves. Vince had a pint of Caledonia Best and I just had a Diet Coke (I'd had a few Dewars and Dry Ginger on the plane trip). Then it was back to bed for another sleep.
